The 29th annual Silvermine School of Art Student Exhibition has opened in New Canaan.
The June 2 opening reception also included an awards ceremony, which once again showcased the talent, styles and disciplines of those who study at the school throughout the year. Students train in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, jewelry, photography and mixed media.
During the awards ceremony, school director Anne Connell presented nearly 50 prizes to student honorees in adult, youth (ages 11 to 17) and junior (ages 5 to 10) categories.
“Some of the students are new to the School of Art; others, including many in the junior and youth classes, have studied at Silvermine for years,” Connell said in press materials. “This exhibition is our chance to show the excellent and incredibly diverse work of the student body at Silvermine.”
The best in show honor was awarded to painter Mary Padilla of Armonk for an oil on canvas work, “The Rooster – Hommage à Soutine.”
The exhibition continues through June 22. The art center is at 1037 Silvermine Road.
