If the holiday season has left you feeling a little stressed-out, there’s an easy way to revive your spirits — a glistening option nestled alongside the Hudson River.
The six period rooms of Glenview, the historic home of the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, are bursting once again with the site’s annual celebration of Victorian holiday splendor.
Glenview, the museum’s Gilded Age home on the National Register of Historic Places, is again suitably adorned for the season with the Library, Parlor, Great Hall, Sitting Room, Dining Room and Billiard Room all hung with garlands, festooned with trees and filled with all kinds of baubles.
Each room carries its own color scheme. The Parlor, for example, sports teal, royal blue and chartreuse hues inspired by the stuffed peacock that sits by the mantelpiece.
Conceived by designer Bob Pesce, the seasonal arrangements use a combination of traditional Victorian elements such as kissing balls, wreaths and period toys from the museum’s collection, along with designs that boast a contemporary flair, such as a rainbow-colored tree in the Great Hall.
New to the decorations is a traditional Victorian Christmas table setting created by interior designer Debra Blair.
Blair, a museum trustee and founder and principal of Debra Blair Design, has created a display that highlights the elaborate meals of the Gilded Age, with the table set for a large holiday gathering.
In addition to the decorations, Darren T. Scala, owner of D. Thomas Fine Miniatures (and subject of past WAG coverage), has partnered with local professional artists to create miniature holiday decor in Nybelwyck Hall, a 24-room dollhouse located in the Billiard Room of Glenview.
The museum’s seasonal decorations will continue through Dec. 31.
